Herpes Simplex Treatment

24 Apr Herpes Simplex Treatment

herpes simplex treatmentCurrently, a herpes simplex treatment is the only way to deal with the uncomfortable genital herpes symptoms that affect approximately 16.2% of all Americans 14-49. Genital herpes can cause blisters, fever and swollen glands and usually appears 4-5 times during the first year of infection. Considering the fact that herpes is a life-long disease, a herpes treatment that works is undeniably important for infected individuals. By managing the herpes virus, one can reduce the chance of spreading the virus to any sexual partners.

April has been declared “STD Awareness Month” making it a great time to become educated about herpes and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Learn About HSV and Herpes Simplex Treatment Options

“Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted disease caused by the herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) or type 2 (HSV-2). Most cases are caused by HSV-2. Common symptoms include pain, itching and sores in the genital area; however, many people show no signs or symptoms or only minimal ones.

The HSV-2 virus spreads through sexual contact with someone who has a genital HSV-2 infection, even if that person does not have visible sores. HSV-1 can also cause genital herpes but more often results in infection of the mouth and lips, producing cold sores or fever blisters.

After initial infection, the herpes virus can lie dormant in the body and reactivate several times a year.

According to the CDC, most people infected with HSV are not aware of it. But an initial outbreak of genital sores can occur as early as two weeks after infection. The sores may start as small blisters that eventually break open and produce raw, more painful sores that scab and heal over within a few weeks.

Other signs of genital herpes include flu-like symptoms, such as fever and swollen glands, and even a second outbreak of sores during the primary episode.”
