herpes treatment over the counter

Because there are currently no cures for facial or genital herpes, men and women with herpes must try and find relief using either over the counter (OTC) herpes remedies or a herpes drug treatment through a doctor’s prescription. Facial herpes, usually caused by an HSV 1 infection (though it can be caused by genital herpes), can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing — and without remedies a fever blister may take up to 2 weeks for the healing process to complete. Be sure to avoid contact with others if you are suffering with a herpes labialis or genital herpes outbreak as they are very contagious at this point. OTC herpes remedies are available to help prevent herpes outbreaks and speed healing time.

In the video below, Dr. Stephen H. Mandy, Dermatologist discusses herpes remedies while explaining that there is no cure for herpes labialis or genital herpes.

Herpes Treatment: Over the Counter or by Prescription

“Let’s talk about herpes of the lips and mouth. This is a very annoying problem. It seems like if you have a fever blister, the entire world is looking right at that. Many many patients suffer discomfort and it takes 10 days to 2 weeks to heal spontaneously. There are over the counter products which are very effective. In addition [there are] oral medications which your doctor can prescribe.

Herpes simplex of the mouth and lips is contagious so it’s very appropriate for you not to engage in direct contact with another person when you have herpes or when they have herpes. Herpes simplex is remediable though not curable.”

If you are looking for an effective oral or genital herpes treatment, consider natural antiviral treatment. These “cures” cannot truly kill the virus, but they can drastically reduce the time it takes for sores to heal, while preventing future outbreaks and limiting instances of viral shedding. Furthermore, this treatment does not have the same bad side effects that are associated with prescribed antiviral remedies. Cures may be far away, but proper treatment for HSV-1 and genital herpes is available if you want to manage your condition.
